KURTI NECK DESIGN CUTTING AND STITCHING VIDEO

We all are aware about various necklines. Kurti neckline or kameez neckline is the main part of the garment. We always wish to  stitch new neckline design for kurti. And if we know the basic sewing we try to stitch the best neckline for our garment. Whenever we go for shopping half of the time we spend in window shopping. Where we take the snaps of some designer garment. And after taking the snaps we think how to make designer kurti at home. The answer is in my today's post. Below is the designer neckline for kurti image sent by one of our subscriber. Don't miss the tips below the post.

In this stitching tutorial post we will see the above kurti neck cutting method.

KURTI CUTTING METHOD:

1. Fold the kurti fabric length wise, wrong side facing you.
2. Fold the kurti fabric width wise.
3. Draw the kurti pattern. Refer our post HERE
4. Cut the kurti front and back.

KURTI NECK CUTTING:

First we will cut the kurti neckline front:

• A – B = Neckline width = 3.25″
• Mark the neckline width.
• B – C = Neckline length = 4.5″
• Mark the neckline length.
• Make the neckline curve from B – C.

• Mark C –  2 = 1″ If you are going to use a broad lace of 2″ you have to increase C – 2 accordingly.
• Mark B – D = 15″
• Mark D – 1 = 1″ THIS SHOULD BE HALF OF C -2 .
• Draw a line from 2 -1 – D.
• Now cut the neckline shape from B – 2 – 1 – D.
• This finishes our front cutting neckline.

Now we will cut the kurti neckline back:

• A – B = Neckline width = 3.25″
• Mark the neckline width.
• B – C = Neckline length = 5″
• Mark the neckline length.
• Make the neckline curve from B – C.
• You can also take another shape.
• Cut the back neckline.

• Now we will attach 2 strips from point 2 – 1.
• Take 2 canvas strip .
• The width of canvas strip is 1″.
• The length of canvas srtip will be the length from 2 – 1 + 1″ allowance.
• Keep this canvas strip on the fabric and stitch it from the centre.
• You can see in the above image.

KURTI NECK STITCHING

Now we will learn kurti neck sewing:

1. Take the kurti front, right side facing you.
2. Keep the lace or strip on the kurti.
3. Pin up the lace with kurti.

1. Start stitching the lace or strip with the kurti front as shown above.
2. Stich both the lace.
3. After stitching both flip it towards the inside I mean wrong side of kurti. As shown in the pic below.

• Stitch the point from D -1 from the wrong side of fabric.
• After stitching the lace place the kurti as shown below.
• Measure the neckline width for the opening.
• I have taken here 7.5″.
• 

1. Now we will fix a patch in the middle of these 2 pattis.
2. Take the fabric of width 4″.
3. The length according to your kurti opening.
4. You can see below the fabric patch I'll insert in the kurti plackets.

• Now insert this patch in the kurti as shown below.
• Stitch along the patch and fix it with the kurti.

• Now fold the front and give the curve to the strips.
• Trim the extra fabric of patti or lace as shown below.

The next step will be to attach the neckline curve patti.

CUTTING KURTI NECKLINE PATTI

1. Cut the neckline patti as shown below.
2. The upper one is for back neckline
3. The 2 below one are for front neckline.

For cutting Canvas patti for front see the below image.

1. Keep the canvas neckline curve on kurti front. Both RST ( Right Side Together)
2. Start stitching the curve.
3. Now flip the curve towards the wrong side.
4. Fold the extra fabric of canvas and finish the sewing of neckline.
5. Now your front kurti is ready.

Back neckline stitching:

1. Cut the canvas strip.
2. Attach it with the back.

MAKING THE BRAID BAND FOR NECKLINE

1. To make the band I've used 3 satin patti.
2. Fold the satin patti in middle and stitch it.(If it is more than half inch broad)
3. Fix one end of all three patti by sewing together all 3.
4. Start making braid.

ATTACHING THE BRAID BAND TO NECKLINE

• Place the kurti and attach a paper strip as shown above.
• Measure the whole neckline curve and make the braid band of same length.
• Align the centre of band and neckline.
• Start sewing the braid band.
• You can see below the band attached to kurti.

KURTI STITCHING:

1. Join both the front and back.
2. Attach the sleeves.
3. Finish the stitching of chak.
4. Voila !! our stylish designer kurti is ready.

TIPS:

1. You can increase the neckline length. If you wish you can keep it above belly button.
2. The braid band should be colorful.
3. You can also make braid band from fabric strips.
4. If possible take fancy lace for plackets.
